Voted one of twelve best new pubs with rooms in Britain in July 2011. The Plough Inn was rescued in June 2009, by Punch Bowl Inns and has undergone complete refurbishment. The Plough interior is now a beautiful open space in which to relax and be easy; with wood burning stoves, stunning oak beams, antique furniture, and rustic wine caves.
The local market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, is just 4 miles south with its individual boutiques, antique shops and medieval market square. Local to the beautiful lakes or if you prefer the Yorkshire Dales, which are just 10 miles east.
Choose from 5 luxury classic rooms and suites which are aptly named after former landowners of Lupton (Lupeton) dating as far back as "Torsin" in the Domesday survey of 1058 to Sir Richard Musgrave in 1681.
Each room is individually decorated in the calming, earthy tones of Farrow and Ball, with large sash windows which give a light and airy ambience. Add to this fabulously large bathrooms with roll top baths, monsoon showers and luxury Sedbergh bath products, making this a perfect property to explore the Lakes and Dales.
History to the present day
The Plough at Lupton has existed since 1760 or longer and the Inn has catered for weary travellers to rest and stop, just before the turnpike at Cow Brow, on the main road between Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal for many centuries.
Food and Drinks
Full English breakfast included and served in the Farleton Room. Lunch and dinners are served from 12.00pm-9.30pm daily. Choose from a selection of small plates and side dishes, from a variety of styles and cuisine to produce a real choice, from seafood, to a hearty steak, or a Moroccan kebab, whatever your taste buds are asking for. The bar and Farleton room are light and open, with a mix of comfy sofas and tables, made homely by wood burning stoves, impressive oak beams, wood floors and genuine antique furniture.
With a simple attractive slate bar, and rustic wine caves, you can have a good nose before you pick your beverage, including a selection of fine beers, local hand pulled ales and an extensive wine list, many of which are served by the glass.

Mr Ronald Smith, February 2013: Probably one of the best small hotels/inns we have visited. The welcome was warm and matched the atmosphere, and standards in every respect were extremely high. The Plough Inn, beautifully located as it is, provided us with a thoroughly enjoyable and very relaxing short break. 5/5
